Lets Strive for a “W” and Land a Few Wins!
Do you have the benefit of working with amazing team members that love to offer ideas for process improvements, or effortlessly can move the vision forward or maybe have a natural knack for catching errors before others? As the adage goes, you are as strong as the team that works alongside you.
Honestly, we should always be thankful for an engaged team. No one leader can do it all.
The question to ponder is, do you feel comfortable with supporting that talent or do you feel compelled to micro manage or does job security feel threatened?
I’m always amazed when organizations recruit the best talent and then cringes when the talent is shining bright. Wasn’t the goal to attract the best? As one of my children stated - why would someone have a sports car if they aren’t going to use that car’s potential performance? Point being, with the wisdom of timing and shared clarity, leverage the talent on your team!
The team would definitely benefit from learning what’s important to the leaders and the leaders would benefit from learning what’s important to the team. When projects are delegated, invest the time to determine which projects play to their skills sets, their interests etc. Sometimes it may be an opportunity for a stretch assignment, which is a project that will help them to learn new skills and experience. In a supportive environment staff should be coached, guided, cheered on and then repeat that sequence.
Let’s strive for a “W”and land a few Wins by creating shared victories!
